How to Get Your Sales Tax Permit & Resale Certificate

📌 Why This Matters

To buy inventory from Lifespace without sales tax (because you intend to resell it), you must provide a resale certificate. The resale certificate is tied to a state sales tax permit — a legal registration that shows you’re selling taxable goods.

Once you have a permit and resale certificate, you:

Buy inventory tax-free

Collect sales tax from customers

Remit sales tax to your state

🛠️ General Tips for Other States

If you are in a state not listed above, here’s how to find what you need:

🔎 Search:

”[Your State] sales tax permit”

or

”[Your State] resale certificate”

Each state’s Department of Revenue website will walk vendors through registration.

Many states accept the Multistate Tax Commission’s Uniform Sales & Use Tax Resale Certificate as valid documentation.

📌 Quick Steps for Vendors

1. Visit your state’s sales tax permit page (links above)

2. Complete the online application — takes ~10–20 minutes

3. Receive your sales tax ID / permit number

4. Download your resale certificate form

5. Send the resale certificate to Lifespace

(so we can process your wholesale orders tax-free)

Common Questions

Q: Can someone without a business still get a resale certificate?

A: Yes — as long as they apply for a sales tax permit in their state. Many people register as sole proprietors.

Q: Will the same certificate work in multiple states?

A: Some states accept multistate resale certificates, but others may require a permit in that state first. Feel free to check your state’s requirements.

Q: Do You Have to Be an LLC or Corporation?

A: No. Most vendors register simply as a sole proprietor when applying for a sales tax permit. It’s the permit that matters — not company structure.

🗂 What You Should Send Us

When complete, vendors should email Lifespace:

📌 A copy of their Resale Certificate

📌 A copy of their Sales Tax Permit / ID

📌 Business or seller name

📌 State of issue

We will keep it on file so future orders are tax-exempt.
